Chargeback and showback
/chargeback-showback converts metered provider cost into reviewable billed
cost and period statements. Platform admins can manage the workflow;
platform-admin viewers have read-only access.
Open the page and understand scope
Select Chargeback in the main sidebar or open /chargeback-showback.
ADMIN users can manage platform-wide periods, rate cards, allocations, and
invoice reconciliation. ADMIN_VIEWER users can inspect statements and export
available CSVs but cannot mutate the workflow. Other roles cannot open this
workspace.
The page shows accounting periods and their statements first, followed by rate cards, allocation policies, and provider invoice reconciliation. Statement links open line-level evidence; period and statement exports support finance review outside the portal.
Configure billed cost
- Create an effective-dated rate card.
- Add rate-card items for model or non-model cost types. Items can use token prices, a unit price, markup, discount, and an optional source pattern.
- Add allocation policies where shared costs need direct, percentage, proportional-usage, or equal-split allocation. Policies are evaluated by priority and effective dates.
Keep provider cost and billed cost conceptually separate. Provider cost is the metered upstream amount; billed cost reflects the selected rate card and allocation rules.
Close and publish a period
Create a draft with an explicit start, end, label, and currency. While it is a draft, select the statement dimension (cost center by default in the form) and the applicable rate card, then choose Close & snapshot.
Closing creates statements and line items for that period. Review statement totals and drill into individual lines before publishing. Closed or published periods can be voided; only drafts can be deleted. CSV exports are available for a period or statement.
No accounting period is created automatically. Closing a chargeback period is separate from generating spend rollups.
Reconcile provider invoices
Enter the provider, invoice period, currency, total, and optional invoice number. The portal compares the invoice with metered provider cost and records the variance. Reconcile again after correcting source data, and investigate material differences before publishing chargeback statements.
Showback gives owners transparent consumption totals; chargeback adds internal billing rules and closed-period statements. Both retain a path back to the metered evidence described in FinOps relationship and data flow.
